Winner of the President's Cup 2007: IM Umut Atakişi

 

President's Cup in Turkey, one of the strongest national tournaments in Turkey was held in Ankara Atatürk Chess Centre between 27-30 April 2007.

After the thriller in the final rounds, IM Umut Atakişi won the tournament with 9.5 points sharing the first place with IM Kıvanç Haznedaroğlu but having the better tie break.

The event used to be held in late 1990s. The event was organized for the last time in 1999 and won by FM Emre Karadeniz.

The event is going to be an eight-round Swiss and 14 players are registered in the event. There are thirteen titled players including IMs Barış Esen, Kıvanç Haznedaroğlu, Suat Soylu and Mert Erdoğdu. Under 16 European Champion for girls WFM Kübra Öztürk is also going to play as the only woman player in the event.
