Atalık and Roiz Shared the First Place, Roiz Won After Tiebreak

Category 15 Valjevo Tournament was concluded after the final round. The decisive in the course of the event between GMs Roiz and Atalık ended as a draw. They ended the tournament with 6.5/9. GM Michael Roiz had the better tiebreak and claimed as first. Valjevo 2007

GM Atalık won against his former teammate and former captain and trainer of Turkish National Team GM Predrag Nikolic. Karpov won against Iordahescu and Roiz won against Stojanovic to share the first place with Atalık.

GM Atalık won the first game against IM Stojanovic while drawn the second game against GM Pavasovic and third game against former world champion Anatoly Karpov. In the fourth round Atalık and Ivanisevic made a draw while Karpov won against Georgiev and joined them at 2.5/4. Atalık had a draw against the strong Bulgarian GM Kiril Georgiev

The sponsors of the tournament are Gorenje as a famous indoor decoration and domestic manufacturing company and the Serbian Premier Leauge champion Sveti Nikolaj chess club. Furthermore, famous veteran GM Ljubomir Ljubojevic is also supporting the event. Ivanisevic, Stojanovic and Damljanovic are in the squad of Sveti Nikolaj and among the field which is even and strong.

Former world champion Anatoly Karpov, who has not been played in slow tournaments since Essent 2003 (excluding Russian Chess League where he played in the same with his legendary opponent Viktor Korchnoi) is leading the field. Winner of the Gibraltar 2006 (with a brilliant 10/11) Kiril Georgiev and former trainer and the captain of Turkish national team Predrag Nikolic is also among the field. GM Suat Atalık who is recently very active played in two tournaments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He finished Sarajevo GM-B tournament equal first and then played in Bosna Sarajevo, one of the favourite clubs to win Bosnian Premier League title. The team having grandmasters like Almasi, Ivan Sokolov and Movsesian finished the league in the second place. GM Atalık became got first board prize of the fifth board performing 2614.
