The U18 National team which won the silver medal in European U18 Team Championship in Subotica is now facing the strongest teams in U16 World Chess Olympiad in Singapore. GM Mikhail Gurevich is now playing in "Second Arctic Chess Challenge" in Trømso which is within the Arctic Circle and the sun never sets for 73 days in this time of the year. The tournament which is being held between 4-12 August has GM Magnus Carlsen, the recent winner of Biel as the top seed. The young superstar had two draws as a major upset. GM Bartosz Socko (2660), Beşiktaş player GM Vugar Gashimov(2655), GM Alexander Moiseenko (2641) and former European Champion GM Bartlomiej Macieja (2596) is also playing in the event. GM Moiseenko won the event with 7.5 points while GM Gurevich lost the final and the critical encounter against him.

World U16 Olympiad in Singapore
World Under 16 Chess Olmypiad is being organized in Singapore between 4-12 August 2007. Turkish National Team that got the silver medal in Subotica, European Team Championship is now playing for another medal. Turkey made a draw against the top seed of the event Hungary, 2-2 and lost against Indenesia with 1,5-2,5. In the ninth round, Turkey won against England with 4-0. In the final round, Turkey lost against Philippines and became sixth.

Atalıks in San Francisco
GM Suat Atalık ve (WGM) IM Ekaterina Atalık played in König GM/IM, a Scheveningen match between GMs and IMs in San Francisco, USA. GM Atalık scored 8/10 and became the highest scoring GM while IM Ekaterina Atalık scored 4.5 and shared 5-7.places. GMs won the match with a comfortable 30-20.

Jose Ramon Memorial Tournament in Spain
Jose Ramon Memorial, "International Chess Open, San Agustin" tournament is being held in Aviles, Spain between 4-12 August. This youth event is a preparation for European and World Youth Championships. Fifth round is being played today. The event is famous for attacting enormous local media interest. Turkisj squad includes Atilla Köksal Yüksel, who got the gold medal in Under 11 World Schools Chess Championship which was in Khalkidiki. All of the Turkish players won prizes from age groups categories but not in the general field.
