GM Gurevich Won 6th International Istanbul Chess Festival

 

6th International İstanbul Chess Festival was held between August 28 - September 8 2007. GM Mikhail Gurevich won the event with 8/9. 2-3.places were shared by GM Pantsulaia and GM Gassanov with 7.5. IM Kıvanç Haznedaroğlu who has two GM norms scored 7 points after making a draw against GM Savchenko in the final round. Tarık Selbes achieved his first IM norm with 6.5/9 and 2516 performance.

Universities category, which was organised as a team event was won by Ilia Cavchadze University(Georgia) followed by Harkov Law Academy (Ukraine). The third place was occupied by Tbilisi Humanitarian University. Tbilisi State University was the winning team of the women category of Universities, followed by Vasil Levski National Sport Academy(Bulgaria) and Ivane Javakishvili University (Georgia). In Under 16 Category, 1-3.places were shared by Sarıyev(Azerbaijan), Karabayır (Turkey) and Yaran (Turkey) with 7.5/9.
