Georgian IMs at the Top in International Mevlana Chess Festival in Konya

International Mevlana Chess Festival was held in Konya between 18-29 September 2007. Governorship of Konya and Turkish Chess Federation are the main sponsors of the event. You can check the regulations from the link below. The total prize fund is 15,000 USD.
The open tournament was won by GM Konstantine Shanava with 8 points followed by IMs Davit Magalashvili and IM Malkhaz Sulashvili sharing 2-3.places with 7 points.
The Under16 event was won by Ahmet Karagölllü while Blitz event was won by FM Muhammad from Syria followed by IM Sulashvili from Georgia with 9 and FM Hamad from Syria with 8.
Mevlânâ Celâleddîn Rûmî (in Turkey known es "Mevlânâ", in the international literature mostly referred as "Rumi") was a 13th century Muslim poet, jurist and theologian. The year 2007, which is 800th Anniversary of the Birth of Rumi is claimed as the "International Rumi Year" by UNESCO.
