IM Sanikidze Wins 6th İzmir International Open

 

The annual İzmir International Open was organized between 8 to 18 September 2007. The top seed of the event was the winner of İstanbul Open 2007, GM Mikhail Gurevich. GM Suat Atalık  is playing in the event. There are 6 GMs, 8 IMs, 3 FMs, 1 WGM and 3 WIMs in the tournament.

IM Tornike Sanikidze won the event with 8/9 after the last round draw against IM Malkhaz Sulashvili who shared 2-4.places together with GM Suat Atalık and GM Konstantine Shanava with 7.5.

Tournament Regulations

IM Sanikidze won against GM Odeev by default after Odeev's phone rang. IM Sulashvili won against GM Annageldyev and he is following his compatriot with 7 points. 3-7.places are shared by GM Atalık, IM Magalashvili, GM Savchenko, GM Shanava and Reyhan.

IM Sanikidze is leading the event with 6/6 followed by GM Atalık, IM Sulashvili who won against GM Gurevich as the major upset of the round, GM Odeev 5.5. IM Sanikidze and GM Atalık are facing each other in a critical encounter.

In 2005 and 2006 editions, Ukranian GM Evgeny MIROSNICHENKO won the event. The total prize fund of the event is 10200 USD.

After Round 5, IMs Sanikidze and Babuijan are leading with 5/5. The first three boards are paired as follows: IM Babuijan - IM Sanikidze ; GM Gurevich - IM Sulashvili ; GM Atalık - FM Çıtak.
