European Club Cup: Getting Tougher

 

Round 2 saw the beginnings of tough fights. The match between Economist Saratov and Tomsk-400 was an interesting one, ended as 1.5-4.5 in favor of Tomsk-400, the reigning champions. Israeli Ashdod City Club and Spanish Linex Magic-Merida made draw against each other.

In women’s European Club Cup, on the first board top seed Cerle d’Echecs de Monte Carlo scored 3-1 against SK T-Com Podgorica. Young Indian star GM Humpy Koneru won against WGM Natalia Zhukova while former world champion GM Zhu Chen won against IM Anna Ushenina and the other games ended as a draw. AVS Krasnotourinsk -led by current world women’s world champion GM Xu Yuhua and former world champion GM Antoaneta Stefanova- won their encounter against Ladya Kazan.
