Turkey played with Armenia, the winners of 2006 Turin Olympiad in fifth round of ETCC and lost narrowly with 1.5-2.5. The next opponent is Serbia. Russia who dominated against Azerbaijan is leading with full points followed by Slovenia and Armenia.

Russia: Too Fast and Too Furious

Russian Men's team marched to a 3.5-0.5 victory against Azerbaijan with Svidler, Morozevich and Alekseev's victories against Mamedyarov, Radjabov and Guseinov. Ukraine made another draw against France. Ivanchuk's arrival to Crete from the Rapid Match with Mukachevo must have jetlagged him since this is not the 2007 version of Chucky losing against another formidable Grandmaster, Etienne Bacrot. Karjakin's win against European Champion in Classical and Blitz Vladislav Tkachiev (see his interview on European Club Cup page of TCF) enabled Ukraininan team to draw. Bulgaria without Topalov (he left Crete for another very strong tournament with the participation of several ex-world champions) made a draw against Czech Rebublic. In the former ex-cadet derby, Navara won against Cheparinov while Delchev's victory against Babula neutralised this win. 2005 gold and silver medalists Israel and Netherlands played a close match with the runner-up Israeli team winning against Netherlands with 2.5-1.5. Sutovsky's and Roiz's wins against Tiviakov and Stellwagen respectively were not matched by Sokolov's win against Avrukh. On the fifth board, Slovenia without Beliavsky won 2.5-1.5 against Sweden with youngster Luka Lenic's victory against the authot of Tiger Chess, Hillarp Persson.

Turkey almost achieved a very sensational result against winners of the 2006 Chess Olympiad, Armenia. Gurevich and Aronian who met in 2005 World Cup Quarterfinals, made a draw while International Master Erdoğdu sacrificed and exchange against Smbat Lputian and achieve a compensation that brought another draw. Atalık, lost against former World Championship finalist Vladimir Akopian in a very complicated position and Haznedaroğlu hold on against Sargissian.
Russia is leading with 10 points, 2 points ahead of Slovenia, Israel and Azerbaijan. Russia is going to face Israel on the first board and Slovenia will play the "wounded" Azerbaijani quartet. Turkey is going to face Serbia in the sixth round.

Poland, Holds On the Sole Lead
Poland hold on to the top seed Russians with a 2-2 draw since Rajlich won against European Champion Tatiana Kosintseva and Etaterina Korbut won against Przezdziecka. On the second board, Slovenia won against Hungary thanks to Rozic's win against Garcia. On the third board, the home side Greece lost against strong Georgians with Chiburdanidze winning against the top Greek women player Dembo and Dzagnizde against Makropolou. On the fourth, Ukraine won against Lithuaina 3-1 and is back on top boards. Spain and Netherlands made a draw on the fitfth board with Zhaoqin's win and Calzetta's win on both sides since the other games ended as a draw.
Georgia is going to face Polamd and they will be eager to occupy the first place and show that they are still on of the top chess countries in women. Slovenia is going to play with Russia that was since both teams have 8 points as Georgia. There are only two teams with 7 points, Hungary and Ukraine.
Turkey won against Estonia with 2.5-1.5 thanks to the victories of Ekaterina Atalık and Betül Cemre Yıldız. Israel is the next opponent.
