Suat Atalık Runner-Up after Rozentalis in Ibis Accor International GM

 

4th International Ibis Accor Grandmaster tournament was held From December 27 to January 6 2008 in Augsburg , Germany. GM Suat Atalık and IM Ekaterina Atalık were invited to the event. Lithuanian GM Rozentalis won the event with 7.5 points. The runner-up was GM Suat Atalık with 6 points. IM Atalık scored 4 and shared 5-7.places. The tournament was held in the second oldest city in Germany, Augsburg, also the birthplace of the famous playwright Bertholt Brecht. The category 8 event is sponsored by Ibis Accor Hotels and the organizer was Johannes Pitl, father of IM Gregory Pitl who also played in the tournament. GM Suat Atalık and IM Ekaterina Atalık played in the event. GM Rozentalist won the individual encounter against GM Atalık and went on to win the event. The runner-up was the Turkish grandmaster himself who won against the well-known chess writer Grandmaster Van Der Weide. IM Atalık scored 4 points to shared 5-7. places.

On the first day of the new year, IM Ekaterina Atalık gave a clock simul against Augsburg Men's team under the name "The Battle of Sexes" over eight boards lasted more than four hours and won by 6-2.
