Sergei Tiviakov and Kateryna Lahno Victorious in European Championships

IX. European Individual Chess Championship for Men and VII.European Individual Chess Championship for Women was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from April 20 to May 5. There were about 500 participants, of which 332 is playing men's, 165 of them are playing in women's championship. 2005 European Champion Kateryna Lahno repeated her success again by collecting 8.5 points while in men's championship Sergei Tiviakov was the only leader to win his last round match against Emil Sutovsky.

Round 1

GM Mikhail Gurevich, GM Suat Atalık and IM Umut Atakişi are the Turkish players in men's categories while 2006 European Champion IM Ekaterina Atalık who also took the fifth place in 2007 edition, WIM Betül Cemre Yıldız and WFM Kübra Öztürk are playing in the women's  section.

Round 7

In men's section, former sole leader Emil Sutovsky, winner of the Corus-B 2008 Sergei Movsesian and the first European Champion ever and the former President of the ACP Pavel Tregubov are leading the event. GM Mikhail Gurevich, the recently crowned Turkish champion has 4.5 points. In women's section, there is a thrilling fight and there are eight leaders with 5.5 points after round 7.
