Wedding in Istanbul!!

The World Juniors Chess Championships are going to be organised in Istanbul, from November 8th to 23rd. 15 GMs, 23 IMs, 13 FMs, 10 WGMs, 16 WIMs and 9 WFMs total 160 players from 56 countries have registered for the events. The championships will be one of most crowded in the last decade. The opening ceremony, hosted by the Turkish Chess Federation, will take place on November 9th at 15:30h.

Returning to Turkey after five years: GM Suat Atalik, 41

The same day, just after opening ceremony, there will be a very unusual wedding ceremony, also hosted by the TCF. GM Suat Atalik, the strongest Turkish GM, has returned to the country of his birth after five years in Bosnia. Suat, a Super-GM with a 2620 rating, will marry with WGM Ekaterina Polovnikova of Russia, who is 22 and ranked 43 in the women world ranking list (her rating is 2412). The ceremony will take part in Okan University in the Anatolian part of Istanbul. All principles and guests will join to ceremony at 17:00h.

The bride: WGM Ekaterina Polovnikova, 21

Just after wedding ceremony the two grandmasters (bride and groom) will play a deciding blitz math for the leadership position at home. The TCF has promised to broadcast the match live on the Playchess.com server. TCF President Ali Nihat Yazici has his bets on WGM Polovnikova. He writes: “If you are in Istanbul on 9th of November do not miss this important time for chess and for TCF. If you want to Bu e-Posta adresi istenmeyen posta engelleyicileri tarafından korunuyor. Dear Suat,

We are very happy that after so many years you finally settled down. This long waiting was rewarded. Eventually you met Ekaterina. We don’t know her, only her games, but knowing how choosy you are, we are sure that she is a marvellous girl and she will be a perfect wife for you. We wish you “casa de piatra !” (house of stone) the traditional Romanian wish for the newly married that means: “a long lasting and happy marriage”. It is a real pity for us that we are not anymore juniors to play in the World Juniors Championship and therefore we will miss the wedding ceremony. On behalf of all your Romanian friends (and you know that you have many) we are sending you the best wishes and greetings.

Your friends (in the age order),

Mihai Ghinda

Mircea Parligras

Constantin Lupulescu

Marriage Greetings!

Dear Suat and Katia

Please accept my warm congratulations about your marriage.
And please Suat, show her who is the "law".
As far I remember my advice to you to get married is something that I was telling you the last 15 years!
In the end what else a man should do to settle down?

Happiness and creativity.

Congratulations from a humble Chessplayer, it is good to see that love can blossom on the chessboard, most of the time there are other feelings which are provoked between two players, when they are battling each other.

Is this a marriage between east and west? (Russian-Orthodox and the Islam) if so, than I wish you all the happines in the world because the road will not be easy.

The public chessgame between you two is not a good idea, I am sorry to say, marriage is a private affaire and a public dominance from one of the partners will create divisions of thought, which way the outcome it will always publicly humiliate one of you,and I am convince that this can not be your intentions if you really love each other.
If it is on the other hand a marriage for bussines reasons than I understand, I wish you happines in your marriage and that it may last forever.

Liebes Brautpaar,
