Beşiktaş claimed its second consecutive Turkish Chess Leauge title with only one grandmaster in their playing squad (GM Vugar Gashimov) with 29 points.
Tarsus Zeka finished the league in the second place with 26 points with a mixture of strong Georgian players led by GM Levan Pantsualia and strong Turkish players.
The third place was occupied by THY (Turkish Airlines) with 25 points having despite having strong foreign players like GM Merab Gagunashvili, IM Anna Muzychuk and Turkish IMs Haznedaroğlu, Erdoğdu and Can.
The fourth spot which might become the final ticket for European Club Cup participation was taken by Denizli Erbakır the sensation of 2006-2007 season after defeating their rivals for the fourth place Manisa Doruk Koleji 8.5-1.5.
After Round 14, Beşiktaş is leading İş Bankası Chess League with 23 points while THY, Tarsus and Erbakır at 21 points are fighting for the first three places and a ticket for European Club Cup which is going to be hosted by Turkey in 2007.
In the seventh round two strong teams THY and Beşiktaş faced each other. THY escaped with a narrow victory of 5.5-4.5 against the reigning champions Beşiktaş. The current leader of the İş Bankası Chess League is Denizli Erbakır with 14 points after defeating the oldest team of the league, TED Kolejliler. They are followed by the winners of the derby Turkish Airlines with 13 points while third place is shared by Beşiktaş and Tarsus Zeka with 11 points. Click the link below to see details.
